Monday, December 28 - Money and Such

Today I worked on my budget.  Yuck.

Things are going to be pretty tight.  I'm going to be behind until I get my financial aid check, hopefully in early February.  Then, between financial aid and work I'll have just enough to get through May.  My part time job has offered me extra hours over the summer, but that won't be enough to get through the summer, so between now and then I definitely need another plan...

In a lot of ways I've been lucky.  Things haven't been this tight since I graduated college.  I've been lucky to have jobs that at least paid the bills.  Even now, I lost my full time job 16 months ago, and between savings, work and financial aid things have held together.  There are a lot of people in much worse situations.

I will be excited when I get a full time job again.  As much as I enjoy my graduate program and part time job, I hate cutting things so close, and I'm nervous about losing the condo.  Triple Yuck to that.

I'm trying to think of this as a good opportunity to develop my budget management skills.  I've always struggled to set a budget and really stick to it.  Especially when my commute is so long.  I get in a hurry, don't bring money, and end up eating something at McDonalds, which is bad for the body and wallet.  It's always tempting to spend money out...so this will be a good experience in terms of really watching my budget, and that's a good thing.

Any other news?  I've been using this website, Wizehive to keep track of my to do items, and keep track of my goals, and it's worked really well.  I think it's helping me develop healthy routines.  I recently added a goal about staying in touch with people; my social goal, as it were.  I always have a terrible time staying in touch with people, and it's something I'd like to work on.

On a connected note, I recently re-organized this site to make it (hopefully) easier to navigate, and to better highlight key sections.  That's an ongoing project, but it's fun to play with.
